<image:title>Novellas - Albion Fay</image:title>
<image:caption>"I know exactly when this photo was taken: July 1975. And I know where it was taken: on the sloping lawn beneath Albion Fay. The boy in the photograph is me. The girl is my sister, Angie. This is the morning of the day when web went into the caves for the first time. It is the day when our lives changed forever." Albion Fay, a holiday house in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nature's bounty. For the adults, a time for relaxation and to recharge the batteries, while for the children, a chance for exploration and adventure in the English countryside. A happy time for all; nothing could possibly go wrong. Or could it? What should be a magical time ends in tragedy - but what really happened that summer?</image:caption>

<image:title>Novellas - It Sustains</image:title>
<image:caption>When Adam was 15, a terrible thing happened. So terrible that he and his father ran away in an attempt to put it behind them. But the past is not so easy to shake off. And a new start does not necessarily mean a better start. Who is the figure at the top of the stairs? Whose is the face in the mirror? what is the thing in the pond? And why does Adam often feel he is being followed, only for his pursuers to dissolve into shadow when he turns to confront them? "Mark Morris writes from the heart and strikes you to the depths of your soul. This nightmarish coming-of-age story once again proves he is one of the best horror writers out there" - Stephen Volk "A remarkable study of grief, first love, and what it's like to be a child when everything around you is new and exciting and dangerous. Mark Morris's skill is he can flip you between shocks and scares, and break your heart in the process" - Robert Shearman</image:caption>

<image:title>As Editor - Cinema Macabre</image:title>
<image:caption>Horror movies are big business. Ever since the first flickering images started appearing on that magical silver screen, people have enjoyed being scared. What is it that compels us to seek the kinds of experiences we wouldn't dream of wishing for in real life? Is it the visceral thrill, the physical kick to our system that we crave? Or are the reasons more deep-rooted? Are horror movies like waking dreams, sluicing out the clutter of our unconscious minds, purging our anxieties and fears by confronting us with them in a safe environment? Travel back along the memory-paths of any current practitioner of strange fiction, of any professional creator of bizarre imagery - be they artist, writer, movie-maker, perhaps a combination of two, or even all three - and you will find, embedded in those paths, glinting like gold, seminal moments from countless horror movies, nightmare images that shaped that particular individual's mind, influenced his or her life in positive, creative ways. In Cinema Macabre the editor, Mark Morris, asked fifty genre practitioners to elect their favourite horror movie and to wax lyrical about it. The choices are eclectic, enlightening, occasionally startling. Come with us as we delve into some of the most fertile, imaginative minds working in the genre today, as we examine what frightens those who in turn frighten us. Contributors include Neil Gaiman, China Mieville, Simon Pegg, Michael Marshall Smith, Brian Aldiss, Christopher Fowler, Kim Newman, Thomas Tessier, Tim Lebbon, Mark Chadbourn and Ramsey Campbell.</image:caption>

<image:title>Novels - The Wolves of London</image:title>
<image:caption>Alex Locke is a reformed ex-convict, forced back into London’s criminal underworld for one more job. He agrees to steal a priceless artefact – a human heart carved from blackest obsidian – from the home of a decrepit old man. But when the burglary goes horribly wrong, Alex is plunged into the nightmarish world of the Wolves of London, a band of unearthly assassins who will stop at nothing to reclaim the heart. As he races to unlock the secrets of the mysterious object, Alex must learn to wield its dark power – or be destroyed by it. “A new novel from Morris is always cause for celebration, and this first in a brand new trilogy ushers in his greatest, most complex and compelling work yet” – Tim Lebbon “In The Wolves of London, Mark Morris not only crosses genre boundaries, but creates an entirely new territory in the landscape of dark fiction. Part crime novel, part fantasy, part science fiction – entirely engrossing” – Sarah Pinborough</image:caption>

<image:title>Novels - The Black</image:title>
<image:caption>Kate Nolan is a successful magazine editor with a loving husband, James, and a five year old son, Max. Her life couldn’t be more perfect—but one day she receives a phone call from James, which changes everything. Clearly distressed, James tells Kate to meet him at midnight outside the beach café once owned by her long-dead grandmother in the seaside town of Seahaven, where they both grew up. A strange request, made even more sinister by the fact that in recent weeks Seahaven has become prey to a serial killer who is targeting the local children. Kate keeps the midnight appointment, but instead of finding her husband and son, she finds herself drawn into an ever-tightening web of past misdeeds and long-buried secrets.</image:caption>

<image:title>Novels - The Deluge</image:title>
<image:caption>It came from nowhere. The only warning was the endless rumbling of a growing earthquake. Then the water came—crashing, rushing water, covering everything. Destroying everything. When it stopped, all that was left was the gentle lapping of waves against the few remaining buildings rising above the surface of the sea. Will the isolated survivors be able to rebuild their lives, their civilization, when nearly all they knew has been wiped out? It seems hopeless. But what lurks beneath the swirling water, waiting to emerge, is far worse. When the floodwaters finally recede, the true horror will be revealed.</image:caption>

Before Long, Rob finds that it is not only his own and his mother's grief that he has to cope with. <image:caption>When Ruth Gemmill's younger brother Alex fails to return her calls, she sets off to check up on him. Unable to find him in Greenwell, the town where he has been living and teaching, she begins her tentative enquiries. She soon discovers the locals to be frustratingly unhelpful, while the eerie town holds more questions than clues. Why are the police so uncooperative? Why is Greenwell so dark and lonely? And who is the 'grey man' the schoolchildren saw Alex with not long before he went missing? “Eerie, assured and utterly compelling, this is a novel you will not forget” – Michael Marshall Smith “Nightmarish… Morris writes superbly about a small town’s gathering of menacing forces” – Time Out</image:caption>

The only witness, music journalist Nick Finch, watches in horror as he crumples to the ground beside the similarly slain bodies of a woman and a little girl. Nick exits the room fast, but when someone goes in to check out his story the bodies are no longer there. Then things get really strange. Unspeakable nightmares. Hallucinations. Mysterious figures shadowing him. Is Nick losing his mind? Or is someone – or something – planting ideas in his head? And why does that word – GENESIS – keep cropping up?</image:caption>

<image:caption>If you run round the church seven times in an anti-clockwise direction, you’ll wake the Seven Sleepers… The sleepy Yorkshire village of Longbarrow looks normal enough. But David Wisher finds a place steeped in the stories and beliefs of the past. Of all the legends that surround Longbarrow, one above all fascinates David: the story of the Seven Sleepers defeated in an ancient battle and trapped throughout the centuries, their evil powers dormant. Redcap, Uther, Vinegar Tom, Gerennius, Shuck, Pyewackett and Cullen. Together they spread terror, pestilence, destruction. And now, because of David’s unwitting actions, they are stirring once more…</image:caption>

The message, written in 1953, is from a boy called John Marshall who claims his father is trying to kill him. And with a new, invigorating purpose to his life David is compelled to find out what happened all those years ago. “Finely crafted and powerfully written, The Secret of Anatomy is an apocalyptic journey into dark and forbidden territory” – Clive Barker “Morris orchestrates the non-stop occult action with fearsome intensity” – Christopher Fowler, Time Out</image:caption>

<image:title>Novels - The Immaculate</image:title>
<image:caption>Jack Stone writes works of dark and tortured fantasy, which have captured the public imagination. Despite his celebrity status, however, he is a lonely man whose smart London life is a form of exile. He has painful memories he does not wish to examine, roots he refuses to revisit – until he meets Gail, a beautiful, empathic girl who seems to sense the shadows that surround him. When news arrives of a death in his family, Jack is forced to return to the horror that has coloured his nightmares for years: his childhood home. There he finds the terror and humiliation he remembers from his upbringing, but he discovers something else as well – a revelation more startling than he could ever have dreamed up in his wildest flights of fancy… “Easily Mark Morris’s best novel so far… A real contribution to the literature of the ghostly” – Ramsey Campbell</image:caption>

<image:title>Novels - Stitch</image:title>
<image:caption>Autumn term at Maybury University and as the nights draw in so does an atmosphere of menace. Dan Latcher, a previously quiet and withdrawn student, blossoms overnight into the forceful, illusion-working leader of The Crack – an organization with the power to shape and alter its followers’ personalities, pushing them onto mindless heights of pleasure and pain. When hitherto bright and vivacious Stephanie Peele becomes one of his converts, her worried roommate Annie enlists the support of fellow student Ian. While the campus is further beset by an unknown knife-wielding psychopath, Annie and Ian pit their strength against the forces of evil as personified by Latcher and his infinitely more potent puppet master, Peregrine Stitch, voraciously sucking in new converts body and soul… “A sizzling banquet of the bizarre that simply demands to be read” – Julian Lloyd Webber, Sunday Express “A big, blusteringly red-faced, glowering novel of neo-religious cults, bizarre sex and rarely plumbed levels of almost impenetrable blackness… the essence of true horror” – Peter Crowther, Fear Magazine</image:caption>

<image:title>Novels - Toady</image:title>
<image:caption>Welcome to the Horror Club! A world of werewolves and poltergeists, psychopaths and shape changers, the unquiet and the living dead… A fantasy world, of course, for Richard, Robin and Nigel, the club’s members, are ordinary boys from ordinary families, who just happen to share a taste for the macabre in movies, books and comics. But then they admit a fourth member to their club – Toady, a far from ordinary boy. From the moment he lures the others into a nerve-jangling séance in a house with a chilling reputation, their lives are blighted by worse horror than they ever could have imagined. Terror stalks the familiar streets of a sleepy seaside town and waits to invade the safest home. The pervasive stain of evil spreads like ripples on a pond, leaving a trail of sacrilege and death in its wake. One by one the members of the Horror Club are forced into a netherworld, halfway between illusion and reality. Eventually it is up to the final member to fight alone against the evil they have unleashed. “A strikingly imaginative mixture of horror and fantasy, with a real sense of supernatural terror and with scenes of horror so strange they border on surrealism” – Ramsey Campbell</image:caption>

<image:title>Short story collections - Long Shadows, Nightmare Light</image:title>
<image:caption>From the Foreword by Mark Morris: “Short stories are the lifeblood of the horror genre. I grew up reading the Pan and Fontana books of horror and ghost stories, the Armada books of ghost, monster and SF stories, numerous anthologies edited by the prolific Peter Haining, John Burke’s wonderful Tales of Unease collections, and many more. I still adore unearthing obscure anthologies, particularly if they contain unread stories by favourite authors. And it still gives me a huge kick whenever I sell one of my own stories to an anthology, because by doing so I feel as though, in my own small way, I’m contributing to a rich, proud and long-standing genre tradition. The stories in Long Shadows, Nightmare Light span a period of eighteen years. Most have been published before – in anthologies, magazines and online – though a couple have been written specifically for this collection. One of the things I love about old anthologies is the one-line teaser trailers you often get for some of the stories – so here are mine. Within these pages you’ll encounter: an amnesiac man who finds himself alone in a mysterious town… a world in which seemingly bottomless holes appear in busy city streets… a pair of lost dogs that return after nine years, having not aged a day… the Christmas haunting of a heavily-pregnant woman…”</image:caption>

The Schizophrenic held prisoner by his own psyche - the man whose aversion to a certain colour leads to violence and death - the gang forced to relive, year after year, a childhood tragedy: these are tales of obsession, of human despair, of a world gone mad. So what makes you afraid? Whatever it is, you'll find it here. Foreword by Ramsey Campbell.</image:caption>

<image:title>Tie-In work - Zombie Apocalypse! Horror Hospital</image:title>
<image:caption>Inside this hospital… the prognosis is terminal! For Staff Nurse Cat Harris the night shift at her hospital in south London starts off like any other. But she isn’t expecting the four girls who were attacked by a crazed stranger in a nightclub… the trio of local gang members involved in a shooting incident… or the spread of an unknown virus that starts bringing the recently dead back to a horrible semblance of life. Soon heavily armed troops have the hospital in lockdown, and as the disease rapidly spreads through staff, patients and members of the public, a small group of survivors battle to stay alive against an ever-increasing army of the flesh-eating “infected”. Set during the dawning hours of the outbreak, ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! HORROR HOSPITAL expands the story begun in ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! and ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! FIGHTBACK, both edited by Stephen Jones. Here we discover more about the reanimation virus as it expands out from All Hallows Church, the secret of the swarms of insects, what horrors haunt the Medical Museum, and how, behind it all, emerges the sinister figure of Thomas Moreby himself…</image:caption>

<image:caption>As it had been foretold, the armies of the Universe gathered at Trenzalore. Only one thing stood between the planet and destruction – the Doctor. For nine hundred years he defended the planet and the tiny town of Christmas against the forces that would destroy it. Some of what happened during those terrible years is well documented. But most of it has remained shrouded in mystery and darkness. Until now. This is a glimpse of just some of the terrors the people faced, the monstrous threats the Doctor defeated. These are the tales of the monsters who found themselves afraid - and of the one man who was not. Tales of Trenzalore collects four of the Doctor’s adventures from different periods during the Siege of Trenzalore and the ensuing battle: Let it Snow by Justin Richards An Apple a Day by George Mann Strangers in the Outland by Paul Finch The Dreaming by Mark Morris</image:caption>

<image:title>Tie-In work - Doctor Who - Ghosts of India</image:title>
<image:caption>India in 1947 is a country in the grip of chaos - a country torn apart by internal strife. When the Doctor and Donna arrive in Calcutta, they are instantly swept up in violent events. Barely escaping with their lives, they discover that the city is rife with tales of 'half-made men', who roam the streets at night and steal people away. These creatures, it is said, are as white as salt and have only shadows where their eyes should be. With help from India’s great spiritual leader, Mohandas ‘Mahatma’ Gandhi, the Doctor and Donna set out to investigate these rumours. What is the real truth behind the ‘half-made men’? Why is Gandhi’s role in history under threat? And has an ancient, all-powerful god of destruction really come back to wreak his vengeance upon the Earth?</image:caption>

One of four audio dramas released under the umbrella title Forty-Five (a number significant to each story and also a nod to the forty-fifth anniversary of the series itself), my story, set in 1902, concerns the opening of an ancient tomb by archeologist Howard Carter in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt – a tomb whose discovery sheds new light on the history of the world as we know it.</image:caption>

<image:caption>According to the guide books Stockbridge is the loveliest village in England. But something is coming to this rural idyll. Something which turns mild-mannered villagers into ravening zombies. It is a plague such as the Earth has never seen before, falling through history from a time when humanity’s greatest enemy was a race known as the Daleks. Released in 2009, this 4-part audio drama stars Peter Davison (5th Doctor), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Keith Barron (Isaac Barclay), Liza Tarbuck (Lysette Barclay) and Nicholas Briggs as the voice of the Daleks.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Aquaphobia – an abnormal fear of water, or drowning. Blattodephobia – the morbid fear of cockroaches. Catoptrophobia – the fear of mirrors, or seeing one’s own reflection. There’s a whole ABC of horrors at Bluefire House, as four young people, drawn together to this tumbledown hotel at the edge of nowhere, are about to discover. But what is the ancient, foul thing that has emerged from the wilderness to bring them here? And why does speaking of it only strengthen it? The Doctor alone knows what lurks at the heart of Bluefire House. The monster of his childhood dreams is coming. And just this once, the Doctor is afraid. Released in 2011, this 4-part audio drama stars Sylvester McCoy (7th Doctor), Timothy West (Dr Magnus Soames), Miranda Keeling (Number 5), Howard Gossington (Number 12), Ray Emmett Brown (Number 16), Amy Pemberton (Number 18) and Lizzy Watts (Eve Pritchard).</image:caption>

<image:caption>You wouldn’t normally expect to find wild animals roaming free in Suffolk in the year 1911. But when the Doctor and Nyssa arrive they find themselves pursued through the English countryside by a hungry lioness. They soon discover they have landed in the private hunting grounds of the famous explorer Nathaniel Whitlock, who has brought together a motley group of acquaintances for a weekend’s shooting. But one of Whitlock’s guests isn’t all that they seem. One of them wants the secrets of the Moonflesh, the strange red crystal discovered by Whitlock’s retainer, a Native American known as Silver Crow. Because the Moonflesh is reputed to have the power to call upon spirits from another realm… …And soon the hunters will become the hunted. Released in 2014, this 4-part audio drama stars Peter Davison (5th Doctor), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Tim Bentinck (Nathaniel Whitlock), Rosanna Miles (Phoebe Whitlock), John Banks (Silver Crow), Francesca Hunt (Hannah Bartholomew), Hugh Fraser (Edwin Tremayne) and Geoffrey Breton (Hector Tremayne).</image:caption>

Winklemeyer also owns a unique carnival full of caged alien creatures. <image:title>Audios - DOCTOR WHO: DARKSTAR ACADEMY</image:title>
<image:caption>When the TARDIS is buffeted by ‘time slippage’ the Doctor experiences a terrible vision of the end of everything. Tracking the source of the disruption, he, Amy and Rory arrive at what appears to be an English public school in the 1950s. Upon further investigation, however, the time travellers discover that the prefects at this particular school carry guns, and that the school grounds are surrounded by an invisible forcefield. But it isn’t until the school is attacked by a swarm of foot-long, crab-like carnivores with spiny, armoured bodies that things really start to go wrong! Written specially for audio, this hour-long story, released in 2012, features the 11th Doctor, as portrayed on TV by Matt Smith, and his companions Amy and Rory. It is read by Alexander Armstrong.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Strange things are happening in the pauper’s graveyard at Charnel’s End. There are hideous creatures in the undergrowth, a mysterious light emanating from the church, and something deadly beneath the ground itself. Someone from Litefoot’s past has come back to haunt him, and things may never be the same again… Released in 2011, this Victorian-set audio drama features the characters Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot (from the hugely popular 1977 BBC TV Doctor Who story The Talons of Weng-Chiang, which starred Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor) in one of their own series of adventures. The Necropolis Express was the second of four stories released as part of the box set Jago & Litefoot – Investigators of Infernal Incidents – Series Two and starred Christopher Benjamin (Jago), Trevor Baxter (Litefoot), Lisa Bowerman (Ellie Higson), Vernon Dobtcheff (Reuben Mord), David Collings (Gabriel Sanders) and Alex Mallinson (The Station Master).</image:caption>

<image:caption>Ross Chapman is one of life’s losers. So when he survives a point-blank shooting, dons a superhero costume and becomes a crime-busting vigilante, something strange is clearly going on. And Ross’s transformation isn’t the only odd thing happening in Cardiff. Time is distorting – around the city, some people are aging, dying and decomposing in a matter of minutes, while others are reverting to childhood. Sgt Andy Davidson knows he’s out of his depth – so when Jack Harkness sweeps into the police station, he’s glad of the help that only Torchwood can provide. But for Jack the stakes are higher than ever. He’s seen a vision of Gwen, dead, murdered by an unknown gunman. And if he can’t solve the mystery of Mr Invincible, he can’t save her. Released in 2012, this hour-long story, written specially for audio, is read by Tom Price, who played Sgt Andy Davidson in the hit BBC television series.</image:caption>
